A Missing Mom’s Bizarre New Life in a Scottish Forest

JEDBURGH, SCOTLAND The desperate search for a missing young mother from Texas has ended with a bizarre and deeply troubling discovery: she has been found living with an enigmatic, self-proclaimed “African” tribe in the bushes of the Scottish Highlands.

The woman at the center of this strange tale is Kaura Taylor, a 21-year-old single mother. She now goes by the name “Asnat, Lady Safi, of Atehene” and is a member of the so-called “Kingdom of Kubala,” a small community living in a claimed patch of forest near Jedburgh, Scotland. Reports suggest her role within the group is to serve as a handmaiden to its leader, “Queen Nandi.”

“It Breaks Our Heart”: A Family’s Desperate Plea

Kaura’s family has been thrown into a state of anguish and confusion. They believed she was a missing person after she left Texas with her one-year-old daughter on May 25, 2025, leaving only a cryptic message that she “had to get out and explore a little bit.”

“She went missing in May. But she wasn’t missing at all; she left to go live with these people,” Vandora Skinner, Kaura’s aunt, told The Independent.

Another aunt, Teri Allen, added, “It is very stressful and difficult. It breaks our heart. We’re overly concerned about Kaura, but she doesn’t think anyone is concerned about her.”

The family describes Kaura as having had a “very sheltered and protected” upbringing rooted in the church. They are baffled by her new life and dismiss the group’s beliefs as nonsense. “Not this thing that they got going,” Allen said. “It’s a bunch of hogwash.”

The Enigmatic ‘Kingdom of Kubala’ and Its Leaders

The group Kaura has joined is led by a Ghanaian opera singer named Kofi Offeh, who calls himself King Atehene, and his wife, Jean Gasho, a mother of seven who goes by Queen Nandi. They claim to be descendants of a “lost Hebrew tribe” who have returned to Scotland to reclaim land they believe was stolen from their ancestors over 400 years ago.

According to reports, Kaura, who entered the UK on a six-month tourist visa, first made contact with the “kingdom” in 2023 through a Facebook group that was connected to one of her high school acquaintances.

Kaura’s Side of the Story: “I Fled Abuse”

In a shocking twist, Kaura has pushed back against her family’s narrative. In a public Facebook post on August 20, 2025, she claimed she was never missing but was instead escaping a toxic home environment.

“Yes, I’m very happy with my King and Queen. I was never missing. I fled a very abusive, toxic family who abused me sexually since I was a child! So you don’t go ‘missing’ to your abusers,” she wrote.

These explosive allegations have added a complex and painful layer to the story, creating a difficult situation with two starkly conflicting realities: a family that fears their loved one has been brainwashed, and a young woman who claims she is finally free.

Authorities on Alert as Visa Expiration Looms

The unusual situation has not gone unnoticed by local authorities. The Scottish Borders Council has confirmed it is “working with Police Scotland” regarding Kaura and the group. A spokesperson stated that officials have provided her with “advice and information about housing options and other support services.”

For now, Kaura’s family is clinging to one hope: her visa is set to expire in November 2025. They pray that this will force her to return to Texas, away from the influence of the “Kingdom of Kubala” and back into their care. As the deadline approaches, a heartbroken family waits, wondering if they will ever get their daughter back.
