Veteran Nollywood actor Jim Iyke has shared his perspective on modern feminism, stating that the movement has deviated from its original intentions and now, in some cases, borders on criminal behavior.

Speaking in a recent interview with The EchoRoom, Jim Iyke noted that while the early feminist movement focused on tackling genuine issues such as patriarchy and gender inequality, the modern version has, in his view, transformed into a misguided ideology that promotes unnecessary rivalry between men and women.

”I consider it a crime, a kind of assault. The perpetrators of this… clearly, I would not name the magazine… launched a clever campaign to push sales . Who were their chief readers? Women. So they devised an ideology that allowed women to challenge the status quo and compete with men in the same space,” Jim Iyke said.

The 48 year old actor claimed that modern feminism was strategically marketed by a women’s magazine as a sales tactic, which eventually transformed into a mindset that encourages women to reject men entirely.

“This was a campaign that went too far, and certain women fully embraced the ideology.

“They decided that this whole ideology of ‘we do not need a man, anything a man can do we can do better’… escalated, and blew it out of proportion. Now it has been adopted as a lifestyle, and a new cultural standard,” he added.

Jim Iyke criticized what he termed the movement’s double standards, saying it promotes a two-faced approach to gender dynamics, rather than striving for natural balance.

According to the actor, modern feminism has evolved into lifestyle and a norm, with some women pushing the ideology to an excessive degree.

“The double standard of it all is what makes me question the ideology in the first place. Do you not understand the falsehood of it? The two-faced approach to it? I believe men and women have distinct roles and when they work together in harmony that is when true balance is achieved. That is what they are yet to understand,” the actor stressed.
