The recent survey conducted has revealed that Lagos men have spent an astonishing sum of N661 billion in commercial sex in the last year known as 2024.

Publishing the survey was an investor and investment banker, Kayode MO (@kayomosebi) and among the N661 billion received, at least N329 billion spent on hiring of girls while N332 billion was incurred to fund other associated costs.

It was also survey that was designed to assess the economic relevance of sex work: the market value and players within it.

Statistical analysis indicated that from among the 3.1 million sexually active men aged 20-69 in 20 local government areas in Lagos, about 1.86 million engaged in transactional sex with non-partners.

The average charge for sex services was given at N36,750; the lowest charge was N20,000.

The highest transactional s3x price was paid in Eti-Osa Local Government area, where the amount reaches N100,000.

This area known for its concentration of wealth and business activity also counts some of the most affluent neighbourhoods – Ikoyi, Victoria Island, and Lekki- among its haul.

Surulere, Kosofe, Alimosho, and Oshodi-Isolo followed Eti-Osa in terms of expensive transactional sex.

The survey further details into how the N329bn received by sex workers has been shared.

Of the N93 bn received, N93 bn was spent on “body and skin care maintenances products including natural hair.”

The study revealed the fact that sex workers supported their families with N62.5 billion .

An N62.5 billion was spent on “clothing, accessories, rent, car and e-hailing, fitness, and healthy living.”

Investments in businesses, including “crypto, trading, forex, and betting,” ran to about N46 billion.

Health and education accounted for N15 billion each, covering expenses such as “antibiotics, supplements, STD treatment, check-ups, bachelor’s program, coursework, project writers and settlement.”

Then, beyond the direct transfers to sex workers, men in Lagos did spend around N332 billion towards other associated costs within their life rainbow.

Combined, they made N150.6 billion in an “Entertainment, food, and hospitality” category.

Other expenses surpassing the direct cost to sex workers were such as, “gifts from souvenir items and other minor consumables from ‘loyal’ and repeat customers to expense-paid trips and vacations, cars, and luxury items to the within more premium segments,” according to survey data. Also, additional, “drugs, sexual enhancers, stimulators and sex accessories enjoyed combined with more than N33.4 billion during the period,” the report finished.
