Nollywood actress and filmmaker Mary Remmy Njoku has sparked a lively conversation online after addressing young women in their 20s about the growing trend of using Botox.

The actress didn’t mince words as she urged these ladies to appreciate their natural beauty and steer clear of cosmetic procedures meant for older women.

Mary explained that Botox, which is commonly used to smooth wrinkles by temporarily paralyzing facial muscles, is typically for women in their 40s and 50s.

She found it baffling that women in their 20s, who naturally have youthful skin, would feel the need to use such treatments. “What exactly are you trying to hide at 20?” she questioned.

The actress emphasized the importance of cherishing one’s youth, pointing out that older people often wish they could turn back time to their 20s. “If only you knew how much people would give to be in their 20s again,” she wrote.

Mary linked this trend to issues of self-esteem, urging parents to teach their daughters the value of embracing their natural selves.

Her post resonated with many, triggering a flood of reactions on social media. Some agreed wholeheartedly, like @ozavizeh, who commented, “This table ehn, especially the lip fillers.

They walk around with swollen lips like they were stung by bees.” Another user, @eseyoma.s.w, blamed the pressure created by social media, saying, “Everyone looks perfect on there.”

Others lamented the deeper issue of low self-esteem among young people. “There’s this air of low self-esteem everywhere! Such a shame,” @chi_n.a.g.o.r.o.m added.

Peer pressure and societal trends were also cited as contributing factors, with @ewere_praise remarking, “Peer group influence is the main issue here.”

Mary’s bold stance also earned applause for addressing what some see as a growing obsession with looking “perfect.”

Actress Empress Njamah chimed in, saying, “Well said. It’s crazy how people these days prefer looking all plastic.”

Mary Njoku’s message struck a chord with many, reminding young women to appreciate the beauty of youth and not fall into unnecessary beauty trends.

After all, she suggests, true confidence comes from embracing your authentic self.
