Niger State Makes History with Groundbreaking Surgeries
Niger State Governor, Mohammed Umaru Bago has lauded the medical staff at the Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida Specialist Hospital in Minna for successfully carrying out the hospital’s inaugural brain and knee surgeries.
In a statement released by his spokesperson, Bologi Ibrahim, Governor Bago hailed this accomplishment as a significant milestone and a major advancement for his administration.
He reaffirmed his dedication to revamping the state’s healthcare system to provide high-quality medical services and lessen the dependence on overseas medical trips.
The governor also recognized the efforts of the hospital’s leadership, headed by Chief Medical Director, Dr. Bala Waziri, for their commitment and advancements. He promised the institution his administration’s ongoing support to further enhance its standards and services.
The initial brain surgery, executed by a team led by Consultant Neurosurgeon Dr. Uthman Uthman, successfully addressed a severe brain injury and skull fracture in a 19-year-old male patient. The individual is now recovering in the hospital’s newly remodeled Amenity Wing.
In a similar vein, a surgical team comprised of Orthopaedic Surgeons Abdullahi Mohammad and Mustapha Ibrahim conducted the facility’s first total knee replacement on a 65-year-old woman who had bilateral advanced osteoarthritis.
The patient is currently participating in ambulation exercises within the VIP wing of the hospital.
