“Japa levels: Nigerian man surprised to meet ex-top bank auditor now working as a store security guard in the UK.
A Nigerian man based abroad, Capt Shinz, shared an emotional encounter on social media about the realities of “Japa” (a Nigerian slang for relocating abroad). He revealed that he almost cried when he met another Nigerian who had previously been a top auditor at Access Bank but was now working as a store security guard in the UK.
Capt Shinz recounted the experience, saying, “The day I knew Japa dey level people to the ground was when I went to one of our TK Maxx (old job) and was introduced to another Nigerian who was working as a store security. Man was one of the top auditors in Access Bank when I checked his LinkedIn… I nearly cried,” he wrote on Friday.
This story highlights the significant sacrifices and challenges many professionals face when they relocate abroad, often taking up jobs far below their qualifications in pursuit of better opportunities.
