R. Kelly Appeals to Supreme Court for Conviction Overturn.
R. Kelly is asking the Supreme Court to overturn his 2023 child sex crime convictions, arguing that the federal PROTECT Act, which allows charges for child sex abusers during the child’s lifetime, should not apply retroactively to crimes committed before the law was enacted. Kelly’s appeal claims that the law was misapplied in his case, where he was convicted of offenses from the 1990s. He is currently serving a 20-year sentence for these convictions. The Supreme Court has not yet decided whether to take up his case.
