Senior Advocate of Nigeria, SAN Fidelis Oditah, has emphasized that the next Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) must be someone with integrity, independence, and proven competence — not a political loyalist.
SAN Fidelis Oditah made this assertion on Wednesday during an appearance on Prime Time, a programme on Arise Television.
He stressed that President Bola Tinubu has a responsibility to Nigerians to appoint a credible and capable individual to head the nation’s electoral commission.
“The INEC chairman needs to be someone who is impartial, independent, competent, accountable, professional and trustworthy. No one who witnessed the 2023 elections can have very good things to say about INEC.
The former Delta State governorship aspirant warned that Nigeria could not legislate integrity into existence, noting that the problem with elections in Nigeria is not the law but governance and character.
He stressed that Nigeria’s legal framework is adequate but undermined by the human element.
