“South Africans Will Laugh at Us Again” – Reactions to Video of Miss Universe Nigeria Contestants.
A video showcasing the 25 contestants competing in the Miss Universe Nigeria 2024 pageant has sparked widespread reactions online. The contestants, representing various states, were seen confidently displaying their catwalks ahead of the upcoming events on August 31st.
The video gained significant attention due to the inclusion of Chidinma Adetshina, a former South African contestant, who is now representing Taraba State as Contestant Number 25. This decision has stirred controversy and reignited a feud between South Africa and Nigeria.
The catwalk segment began with the Ebonyi State representative, Orji Mother Teresa, followed by other contestants from states such as Kogi, Plateau, Enugu, Kaduna, Anambra, Oyo, Taraba, and Ekiti. Kwara State contestant, Ufa Dania, particularly caught the eye of social media users, who commented on her body shape and outfit.
This year’s Miss Universe Nigeria winner will receive a cash prize of N10 million and other rewards, with the winner representing Nigeria at the Miss Universe pageant in Mexico in November. The runner-up will participate in the Miss Supranational pageant.
However, the video has generated mixed reactions online, with many expressing disappointment in the quality of the contestants. Comments ranged from criticisms of the pageant’s standards to concerns that South Africans might mock the event. Some users questioned the selection criteria, while others humorously compared the pageant to a school competition.
Despite the backlash, the video continues to circulate, drawing both criticism and support from viewers.
