Danjuma served as Defence Minister in the first term of former President Olusegun Obasanjo from 1999 to 2003.
General TY Danjuma, 87, is one of Nigeria’s most influential military and political figures.
Under General Olusegun Obasanjo’s military regime, he was Chief of Army Staff from 1976 to 1979. In Obasanjo’s civilian administration, he was Minister of Defence from 1999 to 2003.

The former military chief, who was born in Taraba State, was crucial to Nigeria’s political history, particularly the July 1966 countercoup that installed General Yakubu Gowon.
Beyond his time in the military, Danjuma is a millionaire businessman who owns South Atlantic Petroleum, an oil and gas corporation, and is well-known for his charitable endeavours through the TY Danjuma Foundation.
