Hon. Chukwuemeka Nwajiuba, a former minister of state for education and two-term member of the House of Representatives, has formally announced that he will run for president in 2027 on the African Democratic Congress (ADC) platform.
Prior to the upcoming general election, Nwajiuba, who worked for former President Muhammadu Buhari, declared his intention to run as a candidate hoping to provide the nation with an alternate leadership path.
Leadership must go beyond rhetoric, says Nwajiuba

Speaking about his proclamation, Nwajiuba stated that rather than relying solely on platitudes, Nigeria’s urgent problems call for leadership based on sensible policies, skilfull negotiation, and a robust grassroots political framework. According to the Nigerian Tribune.

His years of service in both the legislative and administrative branches of government have given him a broad understanding of public finance, institutional management, and governance, according to a statement issued by his office on Monday, January 19.
“The challenges facing Nigeria today demand leadership driven by clear policies, strategic negotiation, and a functional grassroots structure, not mere rhetoric,” the statement quoted him as saying.

Campaign to focus on education, economy, and trust in governance
The former minister is expected to centre his campaign on education reform, economic stabilisation, and the restoration of public confidence in government institutions, Vanguard reported.
According to the statement, Nwajiuba is a seasoned attorney who was called to the Nigerian Bar in 1989 and served as Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund). He also stated that his campaign theme is based on what he called a “competence-first” approach to leadership.
