The African Democratic Congress (ADC) caucus in the House of Representatives has called for the removal and prosecution of the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Joash Amupitan.

The ADC lawmakers made the demand over allegations of partisanship and a lack of neutrality ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The call followed the caucus’ inaugural meeting held on Sunday, April 12, 2026, where members assessed recent political developments and raised concerns about the credibility of the electoral body.
According to the caucus, Amupitan has engaged in actions and made statements that are inconsistent with the expectations of an impartial electoral umpire.

They referenced claims that the INEC chairman previously operated a personal X (formerly Twitter) account, where he allegedly expressed support for the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and shared controversial posts, including claims of Christian genocide in Nigeria.
Although INEC has denied any connection between Amupitan and the account, the ADC caucus insisted that findings from digital forensic checks and online investigations suggest otherwise, thereby raising concerns about his integrity and transparency.
“The office of the INEC chairman is too important to be clouded by allegations of partisanship,” the caucus stated.
