The inspector-general of police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun, has taken a drastic step by redeploying the FCT police commissioner, CP Ajao Adewale, following escalating insecurities crisis in the FCT.
Prior investigation carried out by LEADERSHIP revealed that the FCT Police Commissioner was under pressure to perform, having taken over from an active erstwhile FCT police commissioner, CP Benneth Igwe.

According to security sources who spoke with newsmen about the reasons behind CP Adewale’s dismissal, it was related to the state of insecurity in Nigeria’s capital region, particularly the armed robbery event that claimed the life of an ARISE News anchor.
Recall that recently, the most prominent case of insecurity was the case involving the death of ARISE News anchor Somtochukwu Maduagwu, popularly known as Sommie, a security guard, Barnabas Danlami and the abduction of Abuja based veterinary doctor along with his three children.

An internal memo was released to this effect from the Force Headquarters Abuja, detailing that Commissioner of police, Cp Miller Gajere Dantawaye has now been deployed to the Federal Capital Territory.
Wilson Aniefiok Akpan, deputy police commissioner, has been assigned to Kogi State, according to the internal document.

It said that, in accordance with the legislation, the inspector general of police ordered the temporary assignment of two senior officers to new commands, awaiting final confirmation by the Police Service Commission (PSC).
The communication, with reference number TH.5361/FS/FHQ/ABJ/SUB.6/213, was distributed to all Nigeria Police Force departments, formations, and zonal and state commands.
