Eid ul Mawlid

BREAKING: FG declares Tuesday public holiday for Eid ul Mawlid

The Federal Government has declared Tuesday, August 25, 2026, a public holiday in observance of this year’s Eid ul Mawlid, marking the birth of the Holy Prophet Muhammad.

The announcement was made on behalf of the government by Minister of Interior Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, in a statement released Friday by the ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Dr. Magdalene Ajani.

In addition to congratulating Muslims both in Nigeria and the diaspora, Tunji-Ojo called on citizens to reflect on the virtues of humility, compassion, and service embodied in the life of Prophet Muhammad.

“Every Eid ul Mawlid gives us reason to pause and draw lessons from a life defined by compassion, humility and service to others.

“These are qualities our nation needs now more than ever, and I encourage every Nigerian, not just our Muslim brothers and sisters, to reflect on them,”he said.

The minister emphasised that upholding unity remained a shared responsibility and urged Nigerians to embrace the occasion to pray for peace and national harmony.

He wished the Muslim community a happy and peaceful Eid and asked residents to observe the holiday with moderation and respect for one another.

Tunji-Ojo also reiterated the current administration’s dedication to preserving national peace and safeguarding people’s lives and property.
