The announcement was made by the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, in a statement issued on Monday by the ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Magdalene Ajani, in Abuja.
According to the statement, the public holiday declaration demonstrates the Federal Government’s recognition of the faith and spiritual values of millions of Nigerian Muslims joining other Muslims around the world to observe the sacred celebration.
Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo extended the government’s goodwill message to Muslim faithful across Nigeria and in the diaspora, describing Eid ul Adha as a significant religious festival centered on sacrifice, obedience to God, and compassion toward others.

He encouraged Nigerians to use the festive period for prayers and reflection, while seeking divine guidance for the nation as it continues to pursue peace, security, and economic progress.
The statement added that, “In the spirit of unity, brotherhood, and shared humanity, the Federal Government wishes all Muslims a peaceful, joyful, and blessed Eid ul Adha celebration.”
