Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has said he was not surprised by Rivers State Governor Sim Fubara’s decision to withdraw from the governorship race.
Speaking on Monday during an inspection of ongoing projects in the FCT, Wike stated that Fubara should never have obtained the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship nomination form because there was already an agreement preventing him from seeking a second term.
“I’m not surprised that the governor (Fubara) withdrew. In the first place, he should not have picked up the form because there was an agreement that impeachment proceedings would be dropped, while he, in return, would not pursue a second tenure,” Wike said.

The former Rivers governor also accused Fubara of failing to act in good faith by initially obtaining the nomination forms despite the political understanding reached among key stakeholders.
Wike further revealed that President Bola Tinubu had stepped in multiple times to restore peace in Rivers State and persuaded lawmakers not to continue with impeachment efforts against Fubara.
