The Federal Government has launched the “Hire from Nigeria” programme to connect Nigerian professionals with foreign employers and position Nigeria as a global hub for skilled talent and digitally delivered services.
Information and National Orientation Minister Mohammed Idris launched the programme in Abuja on Monday.
Idris also said Nigeria could generate more value from the skills and services of its citizens without requiring them to relocate abroad.
He added that Nigeria’s young population and growing pool of skilled professionals give the country an opportunity to benefit from the trend. He noted that the global economy now allows knowledge, skills, creativity and professional services to cross borders digitally.
According to him, “The future of Nigeria’s economy will increasingly be driven by the talent, creativity, skills and productivity of our people. Nigeria is ready to compete on the global stage. Nigerian talent is ready to work. And the world should look to Nigeria.”
Speaking further, Idris noted that the ‘Hire From Nigeria’ initiative integrates the Federal Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investment, the Federal Ministry of Education, the National Talent Export Programme (NATEP), iDICE, and private sector stakeholders to connect Nigerian talent with global demand.
He added that the Ministry of Information will leverage its communication platforms and strategic partnerships to promote Nigerian businesses and skilled professionals in international markets.
The minister emphasized that the program aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda and supports the administration’s target of creating one million export-oriented jobs.
FG targets global demand for Nigerian skills
Speaking on his part, education Minister Maruf Tunji Alausa said his ministry would strengthen Nigeria’s talent pipeline through industry-focused training, digital skills development, technical and vocational education, and curriculum reforms.
“Wherever in the world, whoever in the world wants to hire, we want Nigerians to be trained, certified, and ready for the hire,” Alausa said.
Joel Ogunsola, founder and president of Tech4Dev, said the initiative would help connect Nigeria’s large pool of skilled professionals with global demand.
“Nigeria has the talent, the world has the demand. Our job is to bring the two together.”
According to the federal government, the campaign would link Nigerian enterprises, professionals, and service providers with overseas markets, outsourcing firms, employers, and investors.
