The presidency has stated that there is no plan to replace the nations Finance minister and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun.

This was stated in a statement on Sunday, emphasising that he was recovering from his illness at home in Abuja.

Additionally, it refuted reports that the minister had a stroke or had been transported overseas for medical care.

This comes following  a report by Sahara Reporters stating that the Finance Minister had been quietly flown overseas after being struck by stroke.

According to Bayo Onanuga, the President’s Special Advisor on Information and Strategy, the Minister is getting medical attention in Nigeria.

“Yes, he’s indisposed. Wale Edun is about 69 years old. He suddenly fell ill. As we are talking, he is in Nigeria. He is recuperating. He’s around,” Onanuga said.

The presidential statement came after rumours surfaced late last week that President Tinubu was thinking of replacing the minister due to allegations of his poor health.

Recall that the Presidency had previosuly confirmed that the finance minister would not be attending this year’s World Bank and International Monetary Fund Annual Meetings in Washington, D.C., stating that the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Olayemi Cardoso, would lead Nigeria’s delegation in his stead.

Since his appointment as Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy on August 28, 2023, Edun has led President Tinubu’s fiscal reform agenda, which includes initiatives to stable the naira, lower inflation, and draw in foreign investment.
