As part of the Presidential Reward for winning the 2025 FIBA Women’s Afrobasket, the National Sports Commission (NSC) has confirmed that each member of Nigeria’s senior women’s basketball team, D’Tigress, will receive the naira equivalent of $100,000.
The commission also confirmed that each team official will receive the naira equivalent of $50,000.
The players’ and officials’ accounts were credited on September 9, 2026, with the NSC saying all recipients confirmed receipt of the payments.
D’Tigress won the FIBA Women’s Afrobasket championship in 2025 for a record fifth consecutive time and seventh time overall.
According to the committee, the payment fulfilled all the incentives President Bola Tinubu had promised the team members.
In a statement signed on Wednesday by its Director of Information and Public Relations, Kehinde Ajayi, the NSC said the Presidential Rewards included cash prizes, national honours of the Order of the Niger and three-bedroom apartments in Abuja.
“With the payment, the entire presidential rewards promised to each member of the team by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR comprising a 3-Bedroom flat in Abuja, national honours of OON and Naira equivalent of $USD 100,000 to players and $USD 50,000 to officials have been fully redeemed and completed,” the statement said.
The panel recalled that in February 2026, during the FIBA World Cup qualifiers in Lyon, France, the players and officials received certificates of national honours and title documents for their three-bedroom apartments in Abuja.
According to the NSC, President Bola Tinubu signed the documents.
The commission added that the team’s participation in the FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup in Germany preceded the monetary payment.
The NSC also revealed that the Super Falcons, who received similar Presidential Rewards, had obtained certificates of national honours and ownership documents for their three-bedroom apartments in Abuja.

The feat extended a championship run that began in 2017. D’Tigress had already won four straight AfroBasket titles in 2017, 2019, 2021 and 2023 before completing the record-breaking streak in 2025. Their dominance has made Nigeria the most successful team in the competition’s recent history.
The achievement also came after the team had made history at the 2024 Paris Olympics, becoming the first African basketball team, male or female, to reach the Olympic quarter-finals. Under coach Rena Wakama, D’Tigress defeated Canada to reach the last eight, further raising expectations around the team
