The Presidency has stated that President Bola Tinubu will meet with Donald Trump, in the coming days over the alleged claims of Christian genocide in Nigeria.

This was revealed in a post on X on Saturday by Daniel Bwala, Special Advisor to the President on Policy Communication, in response to Trump’s recent remarks accusing the Nigerian government of disregarding attacks on Christians.

According to Bwala, the meeting’s main objectives would be to explain misunderstandings over the nature of terrorist acts in Nigeria and to promote cooperation in counterterrorism.

“Both President @officialABAT and President @realDonaldTrump have shared interests in the fight against insurgency and all forms of terrorism against humanity,” Bwala wrote.

“President Trump has assisted Nigeria a lot by authorising the sale of arms, and President Tinubu has adequately utilised that opportunity in the fight against terrorism, with massive results to show for it.

“As for the differences as to whether terrorists in Nigeria target only Christians or all faiths, those would be discussed and resolved by the two leaders when they meet in the coming days, either in the State House or White House.”

Trump recently warned that the United States may halt aid to Nigeria due to alleged Christian genocide and threatened to use military force against the nation.

Moore called for the redesignation of Nigeria as a Country of Particular Concern (CPC) and the suspension of arms sales until the Nigerian government shows a “tangible commitment” to putting an end to the violence in a statement released on October 6. Moore also urged Secretary of State Marco Rubio to take immediate diplomatic action.

Following this, Trump responded to claims of a Christian genocide in Nigeria on Friday by designating the nation as a “country of particular concern.”

However, Bwala underlined that both leaders are firmly committed to combating terrorism and insurgency and bolstering international peace and security cooperation.
