Amidst the escalating political unrest in the state, the Rivers State House of Assembly has presented Governor Fubara and his deputy, Prof. Ngozi Odu, with a notice of impeachment.
The Speaker of the Assembly, Hon. Martin Amaewhule, signed the two distinct notices that have purportedly been making the rounds on social media. They were addressed to Odu and Fubara.

Recall that the Rivers State House of Assembly on Thursday, January 8, initiated the impeachment processing of the governor and his deputy, adding that Governor Fubara would receive the official notice within the next seven days.
The lawmakers accused governor Fubara of spending money without an approved appropriation bill, further referring to the governor as “madam” in the notice.

The governor’s removal move by members of the state house comes shortly after FCT Minister insisted that Governor Fubara will not be reelected as governor in 2027
Meanwhile, a lawmaker and spokesperson for the Rivers House of Assembly has revealed that there may be no political solution to the impeachment, pointing to the fact that even the president may not be able to help.

However, APC has condemned moves to remove the governor and have also its backing to the governor.
