Great Ejekwu, popularly known as DatFairBoy, is proving that leadership in Nigeria today must go beyond rhetoric. Known for his humanitarian work through the Respect Her Haven Foundation (RHHF), Ejekwu has now set his sights on technology and youth empowerment. His latest project, SkillUp Port Harcourt, is a free digital training programme designed to give young people practical tools to compete in Nigeria’s fast-changing digital economy.

The initiative demonstrates a clear understanding of one truth: while donations and charity are important, equipping people with skills has a longer-lasting impact. For Ejekwu, creating opportunities where none exist is his way of contributing to a Nigeria where young people are not just job seekers but job creators.

Inside the SkillUp Port Harcourt Programme

The SkillUp Port Harcourt project is not just another workshop. It is a structured, skills-driven training designed to admit 50 participants free of charge. The application process runs from 22 to 26 September 2025, with classes officially starting 3 October 2025.

The programme, run in partnership with YDG (Youth Digital Global), will cover:

    • Introduction to Graphic Design
    • Business Branding
    • Mobile Photography & Video Editing
    • Print Management

These are deliberate choices. Nigeria’s creative and digital economy is booming, yet many talented young people are locked out because they lack access to training. By selecting areas like branding, content creation, and digital media production, the programme directly addresses gaps in the market.

Ejekwu believes that young people in Port Harcourt and across Nigeria should not be excluded from the opportunities that technology offers. By offering the training for free, he is deliberately removing the cost barrier that often prevents young people from enrolling in such courses.

    Leadership That Goes Beyond Words

In announcing the initiative, Ejekwu stressed that his motivation is rooted in a bigger vision. “We are not just empowering individuals with skills; we are building a generation that can compete globally,” he explained.

Through Respect Her Haven Foundation, he has previously spearheaded projects on gender-based violence prevention and safe spaces for women. Now, he is extending that same energy into equipping young Nigerians with tools for financial independence.

His approach reflects a growing model of leadership in Nigeria where public figures are increasingly judged not just by their wealth or influence, but by the tangible impact they create. For residents of Port Harcourt, seeing someone from their community invest in skill development is both inspiring and practical. It sends a strong message: progress is possible when leaders invest directly in people.

Why It Matters for Nigeria’s Tech Future

Nigeria is at a crossroads. While Lagos and Abuja dominate the technology conversation, other cities like Port Harcourt are brimming with untapped potential. SkillUp Port Harcourt is a step towards decentralising access to tech opportunities and ensuring no city is left behind.

The benefits of such initiatives are wide-reaching:

    • Inclusion: Youth who cannot afford expensive training centres now have access to digital education.
    • Job creation: Trained participants can offer branding, photography, and media services, spurring local entrepreneurship.
    • Talent retention: With more opportunities at home, young Nigerians may be less inclined to emigrate in search of greener pastures.
    • Cultural identity: Locally trained creatives are more likely to tell authentic Nigerian stories, shaping how the world sees us.

The digital economy is one of Nigeria’s fastest-growing sectors, contributing billions to GDP. But without structured training pipelines, the sector risks leaving behind those who cannot afford access. By investing in skill development, Ejekwu is helping close that gap.

More importantly, he is offering a template for others — entertainers, philanthropists, entrepreneurs — to follow. True leadership is measured not by speeches or promises but by initiatives that change lives.

A New Chapter for Youth Empowerment

For the 50 participants who will walk into the first SkillUp Port Harcourt class in October, this initiative may just be life-changing. For Nigeria, it is a small but significant reminder that the future of technology lies in people, not just in infrastructure or capital.

Great Ejekwu has made a bold move — taking his reputation, his platform, and his foundation into a space that has the power to transform not just individuals but entire communities. By doing so, he has shown that building Nigeria’s future requires both vision and action.

As the programme unfolds, all eyes will be on Port Harcourt to see how these young trainees turn their new skills into businesses, jobs, and opportunities. If successful, SkillUp Port Harcourt could spark similar initiatives across other Nigerian cities, redefining how tech empowerment is done.

In championing this project, Great Ejekwu is not just training 50 young people; he is planting seeds for a digital economy where no one is left behind.
