Former Kano State Governor and chieftain of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has spoken on issues surrounding political betrayal, insecurity, education, and past political disputes during a two-hour media chat held at his residence in Kano on Sunday.

During the session, Kwankwaso expressed disappointment over what he described as betrayal by some individuals he once trusted politically.

Reacting to comments allegedly made by the current Kano State Governor, Abba Yusuf, concerning political defections, Kwankwaso downplayed the matter.

Responding in Hausa, he used the proverb, “Ina ruwan jaka da inda aka ajiye ta,” meaning, “A bag has no choice about where it is placed.”

He added that he never expected betrayal from the individual in question, noting that he had placed complete trust in him but was now disappointed by the outcome.

Kwankwaso also criticised some beneficiaries of his administration’s educational programmes, saying a number of those sponsored through his government’s policies had later turned against the political movement that supported them.

According to him, many of those individuals were quite young when they benefited from the programme, but later became critics of the same political structure that assisted them.

Speaking on an alleged agreement involving Peter Obi, Kwankwaso claimed there was an understanding that Obi would serve only one term if elected president.

He, however, added that if Obi eventually decides to seek a second term, political actors would know how to respond.

On insecurity, the former governor linked rising terrorism and violent crimes in some states to inadequate investment in education.

Kwankwaso argued that many states currently battling insecurity failed to prioritise education in the way his administration did while in office in Kano State.
