Tiwa Savage has spoken about how challenging it was to switch from R&B to Afrobeats after relocating to Nigeria in 2012.
Motivated by the rapid growth of the Nigerian music scene, the singer—who previously worked abroad as a backup vocalist for stars like George Michael and Mary J. Blige—returned home and signed with Mavin Records.
In a recent interview with TVC, the ‘Kele Kele Love’ hitmaker shared that the transition became easier thanks to the influence of her former label boss, Don Jazzy. According to her, he helped reshape her mindset and showed her that talent has no limits.

Tiwa Savage explained that while stepping out of her R&B comfort zone into more street-inspired Afrobeats sounds was initially tough, Don Jazzy encouraged her to explore and believe in her versatility.
Tiwa Savage added that she has no regrets about returning to Nigeria or making the switch, describing the experience as a defining moment in her career.
