BREAKING: Nigerian police kill two suspected bandits in Abuja

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Command of the Nigeria Police Force has confirmed that at least two suspected bandits were killed during a recent security operation.

The FCT Commissioner of Police, CP Ahmed Mohammed Sanusi, who briefed journalists on Wednesday, said he personally led the operation that resulted in the deaths of the suspects.

The gang was tracked following the abduction of five residents of Paze community in Byazhin Ward, Bwari Area Council, which occurred last week.

Recall that during the attack, five persons, including a pastor, were kidnapped, while a local vigilante member, identified as Shuaibu Yerima, was killed after the armed men invaded the community.

According to the Commissioner of Police, the kidnapped victims were successfully rescued during a joint operation involving operatives of the Anti-Kidnapping Unit, the Intelligence Response Team (IRT), Kubwa Area Command, as well as local hunters and vigilante groups.

He explained that at about 9:00 p.m. on Tuesday, he led a combined security team on a coordinated search, clearance, and rescue mission across Paze and Byazhin communities.

The operation led to the arrest of two suspects, identified as Icheh Mohammadu and Abubakar Usman, while other members of the gang reportedly escaped into nearby hills.

He further disclosed that two AK-47 rifles with magazines were recovered during the encounter, and that the arrested suspects were picked up during a crossfire.

CP Sanusi added that the rescued victims had been taken to a hospital for medical care and would be reunited with their families after treatment.

He also confirmed that search operations are still ongoing in surrounding communities to track down fleeing suspects and dismantle the criminal network.

The police commissioner urged healthcare facilities, both public and private, as well as members of the public, to report anyone with gunshot wounds or suspicious injuries for prompt security attention.
