Interpol busts Nigerian in Argentina over widespread online romance scam

A Nigerian man on the run identified only as Ikechukwu N, a Nigerian has been detained by Interpol for “orchestrating multiple romance scams involving thousands of women.”

Following his inclusion on the International Criminal Police Organization’s wanted list, the culprit was apprehended in Argentina.

His capture is the first time that Argentina has apprehended a red notice fugitive who was simultaneously on an INTERPOL silver notice.

The arrest was made by Argentine Federal Police and Airport Security Police.

Ikechukwu was also charged with “leading an international cybercrime network,” according to a statement issued by International police headquarters on Tuesday.

“Argentine authorities have captured Nigerian national Ikechukwu N., marking the country’s first arrest of a #RedNotice fugitive who was also the subject of an INTERPOL Silver Notice,” the statement reads.

“The arrest was part of Operation Jackal, an INTERPOL-coordinated initiative targeting West African organized criminal groups.

“The Silver Notice pilot project, launched in January 2025, aims to help countries trace and recover criminal assets.”
