JAMB releases 2026 UTME results for candidates who sat for the exam on Thursday.

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has hit the ground running this year. In a move that has surprised many, the board released the first batch of 2026 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) results.
This batch covers the 632,788 candidates who sat for their papers on Thursday, April 16. As an editor, I find this speed to be a significant milestone for our educational system. It shows a level of technical readiness we have been hoping for.
The announcement came through the board’s spokesperson, Fabian Benjamin, on Friday night. Candidates can now verify their performance almost immediately after the exercise.
Simple steps for candidates to check their results via SMS
Checking your score is straightforward, but you must follow the official steps. You do not need to visit a cyber cafe or an expensive business center. Simply send “UTMERESULT” as a text message to either 55019 or 66019.
You must use the same phone number you used during registration. The system is designed to recognize only that specific SIM card. Please ensure you have at least N50 airtime on your line to cover the service charge. At this initial stage, you can only view your scores. The option to print official result slips will be enabled at a later date.

A stern warning against result falsification and AI manipulation
While we celebrate the quick release, JAMB has also issued a very serious warning. The board is tracking individuals who attempt to manipulate their scores. Already, two candidates and even a parent are in custody for using AI and electronic means to forge results. Falsifying a result is a criminal offense that can lead to a long jail term.
JAMB’s system is highly secure, and they can easily spot a fake message. Parents should not put pressure on their children to the point of committing crimes. It is better to accept a low score than to face a criminal record.
Ongoing examinations and future batches of result releases
If you wrote your exam on Friday or Saturday, do not panic yet. JAMB is releasing these results in batches as they are processed. The 2026 UTME is scheduled to continue until April 22 across various centers.

Over 2.2 million candidates are participating in this year’s exercise nationwide. This phased release helps to prevent the server from crashing due to high traffic. Stay patient and keep monitoring the official channels for updates. We wish all the remaining candidates the very best of luck in their papers. Let us all maintain the integrity of our educational system.
