President Bola Tinubu has ordered an immediate deployment of 5,000 artificial intelligence-enabled cameras to help tackle insecurity in, Jos and Plateau state at large.

The security intelligence action comes after Sunday’s attack in Angwan Rukuba, Jos north LGA of the state, which resulted in around 28 fatalities and several injuries.

Speaking to the families of the victims during his visit to Jos on Thursday, Tinubu expressed his sympathy, stating that no amount of money could ever fully replace their loss.

In a statement issued shortly after the visit, special adviser to the president on information and strategy, Bayo Onanuga said Tinubu has directed Christopher Musa, minister of defence, Waidi Shaibu, the chief of army staff and Olatunji Disu, the inspector-general of police (IGP), to “unearth and find the killers” of innocent Nigerians.

Onanuga claims that the president also stated that Bosun Tijani, the minister of communications and digital economy, will supervise the security cameras’ prompt installation in close conjunction with the Plateau state administration and security agencies.

“The installation will start in Jos and expand across Plateau state, building on systems already successfully deployed in Lagos and Enugu states,” the statement reads.

Tinubu bemoaned the suffering brought on by the most recent violence while expressing shock at videos depicting assaults on Jos.

“It is only God that can give you joy and comfort,” Tinubu told families affected by the attacks at a meeting held at the arrival lounge of Yakubu Gowon Airport.

“No amount of money can recompense for lost souls,” he added.

The president promised that every effort would be made by the government to guarantee the administration of justice and to offer consolation to the relatives of the deceased.

He also gave the minister of humanitarian affairs, Bernard Doro, instructions to gather thorough information on the victims of the violence in order to guarantee that government aid is distributed fairly.

Meanwhile, following the president’s visit, some Jos and Plateau State residents have strongly berated Tinubu.

Many locals, however, believed that the President’s visit lacked the compassion one would expect from a leader.

Some disappointed locals, who expressed their opinions on social media, question why Tinubu would speak to people at the airport when the actual victims were far away.
