Justice Hussaini Belgore of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, High Court, presiding over former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai’s fundamental human rights enforcement suit, has reportedly withdrawn from the case, citing impending leave.
The case file has been returned to the Chief Judge of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, High Court for reassignment to another judge.

The lawsuit, which was submitted to the FCT High Court, contests claims that El-Rufai’s fundamental rights have been violated, particularly by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC).
In the lawsuit, El-Rufai cited the invasion of his home in Abuja as well as the continuing legal actions against him by the Department of State Services (DSS) and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

With Justice Belgore’s withdrawal, proceedings in the fundamental rights case are on hold until the FCT Chief Judge reassigns it to another judge.
This move comes only few weeks after the judge presiding over Malami’s case also withdrew, citing personal reasons.
