Kidnapped female lawyer regains freedom after 4 days in captivity

The newly called-to-the-bar female lawyer, Udoka Peace Onyesom, and her sister, Gift Onyesom, who were kidnapped along the Okene-Auchi road on Friday, have regained their freedom.

On September 26, 2025, Udoka and eleven other people were abducted in the vicinity of Okene, Kogi State, on their way back from the Call to Bar event that took place in Abuja on September 23, 2025.

The female lawyer was held captive along with four other abductees until her release on Monday, although eight of them had already been freed.

Nigerian activist Harrison Gwamnishu confirmed the development in a Facebook, writing: “Freedom on her birthday.” We recently received Peace Onyesom Udoka and Gift Onyesom, who were abducted while returning from the Call to Bar ceremony in Abuja, in a community close to Okpella. It’s a difficult road. Details either tomorrow morning or later today.

According to reports, She was released after her family paid a ransom of N1 million.
