Amnesty International has vowed to publicly condemn and expose Senator Francis Fadahunsi over an alleged inciting comment against members of the Accord Party ahead of the 2026 Osun State governorship election.
The Country Director of Amnesty International Nigeria, Isa Sanusi, made this known on Thursday during an interview on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily.
Fadahunsi, who represents Osun East Senatorial District, was recently seen in a viral video allegedly urging his supporters to kill members of the Accord Party they encounter ahead of the governorship election.
Reacting to the development, Sanusi said Amnesty International would use the senator’s case to highlight the dangers of political incitement and electoral violence.
He said Fadahunsi would be identified and publicly condemned across the countries where Amnesty International operates.
“We are going to use Fadahunsi as an example. He will be named and shamed in the 150 countries where Amnesty International operates for inciting electoral violence ahead of the 2026 Osun governorship election,” Sanusi said.
He described the alleged statement as particularly disturbing, noting that several politicians had made inflammatory comments ahead of elections, but said Fadahunsi’s alleged call for violence was exceptional.
“This is the first time we had so many other terrible politicians say terrible things ahead of elections. But this one is exceptional. A situation whereby somebody came on record, saying ‘kill them wherever you find them’, I believe that person does not deserve any peace again, because advocacy of hatred is a crime under international law, as well as Nigerian laws,” he added.
Sanusi said Amnesty International would use the incident to demonstrate that political impunity should not be tolerated, urging Nigerians to demand accountability from politicians who make inflammatory statements.
“Therefore, we are going to use this man as an example to show that impunity by Nigerian politicians cannot continue, and we cannot tolerate it again. The people have to hold them to account if the government could not do that,” he said.
