The Minister of Labour and Employment, Nkeiruka Onyejeocha, has formally announced her immediate resignation from her position as minister.
The sudden resignation comes as a surprise to many, given her relatively short tenure in the role.
Nkeiruka Onyejeocha, in a statement released via her official X handle, said, “It is with a heart full of gratitude that I announce my resignation.
“This decision comes with profound gratitude to His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, for the opportunity to serve Nigeria in his administration.”
Onyejeocha, who was appointed to the role in August 2023, stated that she left because she wanted a fresh start.
“This is not an end but a new beginning. I remain committed to service, to progress, and to building the Nigeria we all deserve.”

Nkeiruka Onyejeocha had a significant role in promoting labour sector changes throughout her term, especially in the areas of worker welfare and job development.
The Ministry of Labour and Employment, which has been attempting to address the high unemployment rate in the nation, is anticipated to be significantly impacted by her resignation.
Prior to her appointment as Minister of State for Labour, Onyejeocha served as a member of the House of Representatives, representing the Isiukwuato/Umunneochi Federal Constituency of Abia State.
Meanwhile, the labour minister’s resignation comes just few days following other ministers’ resignation including minister of power, Adebayo Adelabu and minister of foreign affairs, Yusuf Tuggar.
