Former Jigawa governor Sule Lamido has declared his intention to run for the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) national chairman.
On Monday, Lamido announced the development in a post on his Facebook page.
Lamido, a founding member of the PDP and a former minister of foreign affairs, expressed confidence in his ability to rebuild and reposition the party.

He said he will go to the PDP national secretariat in Abuja, Wadata Plaza, to pick up his nomination form.
Taking to his Facebook Lamido wrote, “By the grace of God, I shall today, Monday, 27th October 2025, by 11 a.m., be at Wadata Plaza, the national headquarters of our great party, the Peoples Democratic Party, to purchase the nomination form to run for the office of national chairman”.
“My commitment to democracy and resolve to restore our dear party to its old glory is unstoppable.”

The former Jigawa state governor claimed that the necessity to bolster internal democracy and get the party ready for future elections was the driving force for his choice.
The PDP, which governed Nigeria from 1999 to 2015, is expected to elect a new national chairman at its forthcoming convention.
The PDP national convention to choose new national working committee (NWC) leaders is scheduled to take place in Ibadan, the capital of Oyo state, on November 15 and 16.

In accordance with party custom, the national chairmanship was allocated to the north in August, while the PDP national executive committee (NEC) zoned its presidential ticket to the south.
Former governors Ahmed Makarfi (Kaduna), Lamido, and Kabiru Turaki, the former minister of special duties and intergovernmental affairs, were believed to be interested in the chairperson position, which was further micro-zoned to the northwest.
