Mohbad’s family has barred his widow, Wunmi, from using their surname.

They have officially prohibited her from bearing Aloba, the late singer’s family name, until a DNA test confirms the paternity of their son, Liam.
This development comes amid the ongoing paternity dispute involving Wunmi, following Mohbad’s controversial death on September 12, 2023.
Mohbad died after he received an injection from an auxiliary nurse. His body was exhumed for an autopsy following the public outcry.
In May 2025, the investigation suffered a setback when pathologists reported that the cause of Mohbad’s death could not be determined.

However, in a new development, the Mohbad’s family head, Omolayo Aloba in an official statement jointly signed with the late singer’s father, Joseph Aloba, restricted Wunmi from using the Mohbad’s family name.
While arguing that Omowunmi was not legally married to Mohbad, they noted that “For the avoidance of doubt, no statutory or customary marriage was contracted between the late Mohbad and Wunmi Adebanjo, as the required Yoruba traditional rites (payment of bride price) were never completed”.
Mohbad’s family further named Oladayo Ogungbe as their sole legal representative for the DNA case and Mohbad’s estate, while Wahab Shittu will continue to handle all matters with investigative authorities regarding his death.
The statement added that both the child and Wunmi would be included in the estate administration process after the DNA test confirms Liam as Mohbad’s biological son.
