The move, aimed at curbing alcohol abuse and safeguarding public health, will take effect on January 1, 2026, according to the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control.
At a press briefing in Abuja, the Director-General, Prof. Mojisola Adeyeye, revealed that the government has approved the recruitment of 1,000 new staff to bolster the agency’s enforcement and regulatory efforts.

She stated that the move followed a Senate resolution and a directive from the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare.
According to her, the ban is to protect children, teenagers, and young adults from the dangers of cheap and easily available alcohol.
