NCAA petitions AGF, IGP to investigate and prosecute Kwam

The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has announced a suspension of its services to 11 domestic airline operators on a “no-pay-no-service” sanction list over outstanding financial obligations.

The suspension comes following a directive from the agency’s director-general, according to an internal memo dated May 22 and signed by Olufemi Odukoya, the authority’s director of finance and accounts.

Consequently, the NCAA has instructed all its directorates to withhold services from the affected airlines pending financial clearance.

The memo reads, “The DGCA has directed that no directorate should render any service to the above airlines without financial clearance from the director of finance & accounts.”

Meanwhile the airlines listed include; Air Peace Limited, Ibom Air Limited, Arik Air Limited, United Nigeria Airlines, Umza Air, NG Eagle, Max Air Limited, Caverton Helicopters, Overland Airways, Rano Air, and ValueJet.

BACKSTORY…

The Aviation Ground Handlers Association of Nigeria (AGHAN) had earlier issued airlines a final three-day ultimatum over unpaid bills and warned that it will suspend services from May 6 if the airlines fail to pay.

Also recall that President Bola Tinubu authorised a 30% reduction in local carriers’ debts to aviation authorities on April 23.
Aviation mninister, Keyamo announced the development, adding that the decision was made to lessen the strain that airline operators were under due to growing operating expenses.

This came after Nigerian domestic airlines had earlier warned that rising aviation fuel prices could force them to halt operations or increase airfares.

According to Festus Keyamo, Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, the arrears include parking charges owed to the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), navigational fees owed to the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA), and other airline debts.
