Nigerian stars shine bright at the 17th Headies Awards (full list of winners)

The 17th edition of the famous Headies Awards, dubbed ‘Back to Base’, was held on Sunday as top names in the entertainment industry converged at the Landmark Event Centre, Lekki, signifying a vibrant return of the award to Nigeria after two years overseas.

Popular actress and media personality Nancy Isime, and IK Osakioduwa, a seasoned broadcaster, hosted the event. The duo made a dynamic team that brought energy, humour, and charisma to the stage.

In addition to celebrating musicians, producers, and creatives who have made noteworthy contributions in the past year, the Headies Awards evening was devoted to commemorating exceptional accomplishments throughout the Nigerian and African music industries.

Several of top performers, including Qing Madi, L.A.X, Odumodublvck, Kcee, Shallipopi, Flavour, Juma Jux, Nasboi, Magnito, and others, gave incredible performances that further energised the evening.

According to sources who attended the headies, the event experienced some  technical difficulties and poor time management, which forced the organisers to end the ceremony before announcing the winners of some categories.

In a emotional moment during the headies awards, late Mohbad was honoured with the Best Street-Hop Artiste award posthumously for his popular song “Ask About Me.” The audience gave him a standing ovation as his family, including his wife and young son Liam, received the award on his behalf.

According to reports, there was mild drama at the headies when Odumodublvck, the Next Rated Category winner, was giving a lengthy speech . The event organisers asked him to leave the stage. However, the well-known rapper refused to leave the stage.
