Davido’s logistics manager, Israel DMW, has dismissed the reported ban on the singer from performing in Edo State, insisting that no individual has the authority to stop him from staging a show in the state.
Israel made the statement while reacting to a directive reportedly issued by Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo.
The development followed a video released on Friday by Apostle Kassy Chukwu, the governor’s Senior Special Assistant on Digital Media, announcing that Davido had been barred from performing in Edo State over his recent social media clash with Okpebholo concerning the Osun State governorship election.
Reacting to the directive, Israel, who is from Edo State, argued that Davido could not be prevented from performing in the state.
He also pointed out that Davido’s mother is from Edo State and criticised Kassy Chukwu, alleging that the governor’s aide is originally from Ebonyi State and had no authority to speak on behalf of Edo residents.
Sharing a photo of Kassy Chukwu on Instagram, Israel wrote:
“HE’S FROM EBONYI STATE, AND NOT FROM EDO. 100% A REAL SETTLER, WHO HAS BECOME A COMPLETE NUISANCE IN BENIN CITY. AN APC FAKE PASTOR, A CUM PASTOR. A BEER PALOUR PASTOR.
“KINDLY DISREGARD WHAT HE’S SAYING. HE’S NOT SPEAKING FOR WE EDOLITES. NO MAN ON THIS PLANET EARTH, CAN BAN OGA FROM EDO, HIS MATERNAL HOME. IDIOT OF A PASTOR.”
BACKSTORY:
The controversy stems from a recent clash between Davido and Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo over political developments surrounding the Osun State governorship election.
During the campaign for the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate in Osun State, Bola Oyebamiji, Okpebholo criticised Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke’s performance and took a swipe at his public dancing.
Davido, who is Adeleke’s nephew, responded on social media by mocking Okpebholo and sharing what he presented as the governor’s WAEC result.
Following Adeleke’s victory in the Osun governorship election, Davido maintained that he had no intention of apologising to Okpebholo. He also challenged the Edo governor during the ensuing social media exchange.
The dispute later escalated after Apostle Kassy Chukwu, the Edo governor’s Senior Special Assistant on Digital Media, announced that Davido had been barred from performing in Edo State.
