Oba Joseph Oloyede of Ipetumodu in Osun State has been sentenced to prison in the United States in connection with a $4.2 million fraud case.

The sentencing was handed down on Tuesday by Judge Christopher Boyko.

Oba Joseph Oloyede and Nigerian pastor Edward Oluwasanmi were arrested in April 2024 for their involvement in a COVID-19 relief fund fraud amounting to $4.2 million.

ccording to the 13 charge sheet against them, the duo submitted loan applications with false information.

However, Justice Boyko in his ruling on Tuesday sentenced Oloyede to 56 months in prison, ordered him to “serve 3 years of supervised release after imprisonment and pay $4,408,543 in restitution”.

The US attorney’s office in the northern district of Ohio in a statement released, disclosed that the Nigerian monarch will forfeit the $96,006 earlier seized by investigators and his Medina residence.

The court had in July 2025, sentenced Pastor Oluwasanmi to 27 months imprisonment.
