Popular Anambra-based cleric, Chukwuemeka “Odumeje” Ohanaemere, has alleged that some Nigerians who openly support President Bola Tinubu and his administration are doing so because they have been “bribed”.
Odumeje made the claim in a video circulating on social media on Thursday, where he also criticised the President over his recent comments on hunger in Nigeria.
The controversial preacher accused political leaders of focusing on personal and family interests rather than prioritising the welfare of citizens.
The Odumeje criticises Tinubu development came as the cleric argued that elected officials are only custodians of the nation’s resources and are expected to use them for the benefit of Nigerians.
“Anyone you see singing praises for the current government is doing so because that person has been bribed,” Odumeje alleged.
He added that public office holders should remember that the resources they manage belong to Nigerians and not to themselves or their families.
“You are there to manage our resources, not your personal business or your family’s business. These are resources that belong to every Nigerian citizen,” he said.
Odumeje urged Nigerians to use the 2027 general elections as an opportunity to decide the direction of the country and hold leaders accountable.
The cleric also criticised governors and senators who defended President Tinubu’s statement that hunger existed in Nigeria before his birth.
He questioned whether Nigeria’s resources should belong to political leaders and their families or to all citizens, saying Nigerians would make that decision during the next election cycle.
The Odumeje criticises Tinubu remarks also included allegations that some politicians support the President because of personal interests, rather than national development.
According to him, leaders should be accountable for their actions and provide solutions to the challenges facing Nigerians instead of blaming previous administrations or opposition parties.
Odumeje further raised concerns over the Federal Government’s borrowing, demanding transparency over loans obtained in the name of Nigerians.
He warned that accumulated debts could affect citizens and future generations, insisting that leaders must explain how borrowed funds are being used.
“The money you borrow, you borrow in all our names. So you must account for it because that debt falls on our heads and on the future of all our children,” he said.
