Ogun Police Chief Leads Joint Security Assessment Along Ogun–Ondo Border

The Ogun State Police Command, alongside other security agencies and key government officials, has conducted a joint operational assessment and show of force across strategic communities spanning from Itele-Ijebu to the Ondo State border.

The operation was conducted to strengthen security along the Ogun–Ondo border corridor, particularly within the Ogun Waterside axis, covering communities such as Iwopin, Abigi, and Ibiade.

It also forms part of efforts to consolidate the successes recorded under “Operation Kosaye” and sustain the fight against crime and other criminal activities across the state.

In a statement issued on Sunday, the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, said the exercise was designed to reassure residents, commuters, and other road users of the commitment of security agencies to safeguarding lives and property, maintaining security presence in the area, and responding swiftly to emerging threats.

Quoting the Commissioner of Police, CP Bode Ojajuni, Babaseyi said the police chief commended the strong collaboration among participating security agencies, government officials, and relevant stakeholders.

Ojajuni also urged members of the public to remain security-conscious, stay vigilant, and continue providing credible and timely information to security agencies, stressing that effective policing depends on cooperation between law enforcement and the communities they serve.

According to the statement, the operational assessment covered the Ijebu Ode–Ore Expressway, passing through Ijebu Ode, J2, J3, J4, Itele, Atoyo, Agerige, Ogbere, Ibiade, Iwopin, Abigi in Ogun Waterside, before ending at Ajebandele, the boundary community between Ogun and Ondo states, where security personnel conducted a comprehensive assessment of the security situation.

The command noted that the exercise also enhanced inter-agency collaboration, strengthened intelligence gathering, and encouraged greater community involvement in crime prevention efforts.

It added that the operation sent a clear message that the Ogun–Ondo border corridor remains under constant surveillance and coordinated security monitoring.

Reaffirming the command’s commitment, CP Ojajuni said the police would continue to strengthen joint security operations, improve intelligence sharing, leverage modern policing technology, and deepen collaboration with local communities to enhance public safety across Ogun State.

The assessment was attended by the Ogun State Governor’s Security Consultant, CP Edward Ajogun (retd.); Commander of the 35 Artillery Brigade, Brigadier General J.O. Onu; the Director of the Department of State Services in Ogun State, R.A. Adelakun; the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps State Commander, Remilekun Ekundayo; Ogun Amotekun Corps Commander, Brigadier General Alade Adedigba (retd.); Commander of the So-Safe Corps, Soji Ganzallo; as well as the chairmen of Ijebu East, Ijebu North East, and Ogun Waterside Local Government Areas.

BACKSTORY:

The Ogun–Ondo border corridor has remained a strategic focus for security agencies because of its extensive road network, waterways, and remote communities, which can be exploited by criminal elements. In recent years, authorities have intensified joint security operations in the area to tackle armed robbery, kidnapping, cult-related violence, illegal activities, and cross-border crimes. Initiatives such as “Operation Kosaye” were introduced to strengthen intelligence gathering, improve inter-agency collaboration, and reassure residents through sustained security patrols. The latest operational assessment and show of force form part of ongoing efforts by the Ogun State government and security agencies to maintain law and order, prevent criminal activities, and ensure the safety of communities along the border.
