Former media aide to the late President Muhammadu Buhari, Lauretta Onochie, has given reasons why former Vice President Atiku Abubakar should emerge as the presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) ahead of its primary election.
According to her, Atiku offers the party its strongest chance of winning the 2027 presidential election and forming the next government.

In a statement, she urged members of the ADC to prioritize electability, arguing that if the party is serious about making a historic impact, Atiku should be its standard bearer.
The ADC has scheduled its presidential primary for today, Monday.
Onochie emphasized that politics is not based on sentiment or effort alone, but on readiness, capacity, national reach, and the ability to win and govern effectively.
She said: “Politics is not an award for effort; it is not about sentiments. It is a test of preparedness, capacity, national reach and the ability to win power and govern effectively.
“As ADC prepares for its 2027 presidential primary, members must ask one key question: Who gives ADC the strongest chance to win Nigeria and govern successfully? For many in the party, the answer is clear: HE. Atiku Abubakar.

“Atiku brings experience, national appeal, coalition-building strength, economic understanding, and political resilience—qualities few politicians can match.
“If ADC truly wants not just to make history but to win it, then it must choose a candidate with national spread, proven endurance, and the ability to turn ambition into governance.
“The primary is the contest, the general election is the mission, and the presidency is the destination.”
