Afrobeats musician David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has clarified reports surrounding an alleged attack on Governor Ademola Adeleke’s convoy.
Earlier on Wednesday, reports emerged alleging a shootout between security personnel attached to the governor’s convoy and armed thugs at the palace of the Ataoja of Osogbo, Oba Jimoh Oyetunji. The reported incident occurred shortly after Governor Adeleke visited the traditional ruler to celebrate following his receipt of the Certificate of Return.
According to the reports, Osogbo was tense on Wednesday when Osun Governor Ademola Adeleke’s vehicle was ambushed by alleged thugs immediately after he visited the palace of Osogbo’s Ataoja, Jimoh Oyetunji.
The attackers reportedly left the area after a 12- to 15-minute gunfight.
Additionally, an eye witness also stated that the gunmen started shooting around the palace after arriving in an unregistered Sienna car through Osogbo’s Ita Olokan neighbourhood.
Residents and traders in the vicinity reportedly fled for their lives and abandoned their businesses as a result of the incident.
However, Davido debunked the claims in a post shared on his verified X account on Wednesday night, denying that an attack took place. He clarified that there was a fight outside the palace of the monarch they visited.
“Lies! It was a fight outside the palace that had nothing to do with us. The people love his excellency,” he wrote.
