A tragic event occurred in Western Kazakhstan as an Azerbaijan Airlines plane crashed, with dozens of lives lost.
The plane traveling from Baku in Azerbaijan to Grozny in Russia was carrying 67 passengers (62 passengers and 5 crew members) on board before going off its route and crash landing near Aktau, an oil and gas hub on the Caspian Sea’s eastern shore.
However, there were 28 survivors who are currently being treated by the Kazakhstan health authorities. They have also launched an investigation into what caused the crash.
Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev has also ordered an urgent inquiry, cutting short his visit to Russia, where he was attending a Commonwealth of Independent States summit.
Azerbaijan’s First Lady and Vice President Mehriban Aliyeva expressed her sorrow, saying, “I extend my heartfelt condolences to the families and loved ones of the victims. Wishing them strength and patience! I also wish a speedy recovery to the injured.”
