Four adult men lost their lives in an accident near Enuda High School, Abiriba, in Ohafia Local Government Area of Abia State.
The crash involved a truck carrying tiles and doors from Port Harcourt to Abiriba, which also left five others seriously injured.
The impact of the accident caused the truck to break into three parts, resulting in the death of four persons.
While some residents attributed the accident to over speeding, others claimed that the vehicle suffered brake failure before crashing.
The injured victims were evacuated to the hospital in Abiriba by officials of FRSC and Abia State Road Traffic Management Agency, ARTMA, for immediate medical attention.
Confirming the accident, the Sector of Federal Road Safety Commission, FRSC Abia State Sector Command, Mrs Ngozi Ezeoma said, “There was a crash involving nine male adults, and four male adults out of the nine regrettably lost their lives while the rest were injured.”
Also speaking, the Chairman of Ohafia LGA, Eleanya Ojuu Kalu, described the loss of the young men as a tragedy to Abiriba and Ohafia at large.
Kalu also thanked the DPO Abiriba Police Division, the Zonal Commander of Federal Road Safety Corps and Abia Road Traffic and Safety Management Agency, ARTSMA, for their prompt arrival at the accident scene when they were alerted.
