The FBI has made public pictures of a “person of interest” connected to the shooting and unfortunate death of Charlie Kirk, a conservative activist and co-founder of Turning Point USA, at Utah Valley University (UVU).

The FBI has offered a $100,000 reward for reliable information and is requesting the public’s help in identifying the perpetrator, according to the BBC.

Following Wednesday’s gunshot, authorities say the person, who is thought to be of college age, ran away into a nearby suburb.

Kirk’s suspected killer

Investigators later found a powerful Mauser 30-06 bolt-action rifle in the woods, along with a forearm imprint and a shoe footprint they think might belong to the shooter.

Footage reviewed by investigators captures the suspect running across a roof near the scene.

According to Jefferson County Sheriff’s office spokesperson Jackie Kelly, over 100 police have joined the search.

Police have since released two individuals they had previously questioned. Utah officials cancelled Thursday’s scheduled news conference, citing “rapid developments in our investigation.”

New discussions about political violence in the US have been triggered by the murder of Charlie Kirk, a close ally of President Donald Trump.

Following this, Trump announced that he would give Charlie Kirk the Presidential Medal of Freedom posthumously and stated that his body would be transported to Arizona on Air Force Two.

Charlie Kirk was delivering a speech at UVU in Orem, Utah, when the shooter opened fire, sending students and staff into panic. He later succumbed to his injuries.

The incident which happened only 4 days after Charlie made a tweet condemning the killing of an 18 year old student Iryna Zarutska by a man with 14 prior cases has drawn widespread condemnation, with authorities urging calm as investigations continue.
