Crisis as flood destroys over 500 homes in Kogi community, dozens displaced
Flood in Kabba, the capital of Kogi State’s Kabba/Bunu Local Government Area, have destroyed property valued at millions of naira and inundated at least 500 homes.

According to reports, more than 500 homes were destroyed in the flood disaster, leaving many families displaced, others without a place to live.

Hundreds of people have been relocated in Ondo State due to flooding caused by a three-day rainstorm in the state’s three senatorial districts.

Additionally, sources claim that seven bridges in some of the impacted areas fell, preventing locals from reaching their jobs, farms, and marketplaces.

Residents of Kogi said Wednesday that the three days of continuous rain caused the local brooks and streams to burst their banks and flood the communities, causing catastrophic damage.

The disaster, which was as a result of rainfall that began on Wednesday night, was reported to have affected the Idde-Iyah community in the Kabba community the most.

Chief Obahunlewo, the Obaladugbo of Ekiri Quarter and a traditional leader of the Idde-Iyah community, was said to have lost his house and personal possessions.

According to Lawal Abejide, a resident and leader of one of the affected communities in Kabba/Bunu, said “The flood affected over 500 households, places of worship, and claimed the lives of more than 1,500 domestic animals.

Similarly, it was gathered that the rainstorm in Ondo triggered a devastating flood in the state’s Owo, Ilaje, and Okitipupa Local Government Areas, leaving hundreds of people without homeless.

Following a three-day period of intense rain in the council regions, houses were submerged and properties valued at millions of naira were damaged.

The disaster affected residents of Ayeka, Ikoya, Igbodigo, Igodan, and other nearby communities, such as Ignoring, Igbotako, and Ilutuntun.

This is coming after NEMA warned of water disasters warning states to put proper structures in place to combat the season.
