Anxiety rises as miscreants torch police station and local government secretariat in Anambra.
There was heightened tension as a group of around 30 hoodlums set fire to both the Neni Police station and the headquarters of the Anaocha Local Government Area in Anambra state. The incident occurred between 3 am and 4 am on Thursday, March 28, 2024.
Reports indicate that the armed gang also abducted some police officers, including female personnel, from the police station. Although the attackers used Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs), they were ultimately repelled by the police operatives, who engaged them with superior firepower, forcing them to retreat. #naijaeyesblog

Anambra State Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, confirmed that while the assailants did not steal any weapons or personnel, the police are continuing operations in the area. He did not provide specific details regarding the extent of damage caused at the local government headquarters by the attackers.
In a separate development, over 100 inmates on Death Row in Kano State have appealed for clemency from the state government and the Committee of Propagative of Mercy. The Controller of Correctional Centers, Suleiman Inuwa, submitted a list of inmates seeking clemency to the Chairperson of the Kano State Prerogative of Mercy Committee, Hajiya Azumi Namadi Bebeji. The committee assured the inmates that their cases would be reviewed based on their conduct while in custody and their efforts towards rehabilitation and education.
