Nasarawa Market in Ruins as Fire Guts 30 Shops

A fire has razed down tailoring shops at the new modern market in Lafia, the State capital of Nasarawa state, destroying goods worth millions of naira. This incident happened on Friday evening. It was later gathered that the fire started on Thursday night at about 9:30 p.m. and lasted until the early hours of Friday.

It was difficult for the personnel of the Nasarawa State Fire Service to put off the fire due to the heaps of refuse dumps in and around the marketplace. The intense heat of the raging fire also delayed the firefighters’ efforts to handle the situation.

From the report it it was gathered that about 70% of the shops that were are the ones with the 40 new sewing machines that were supplied on Thursday moring, including the three shops of my father as cited by the son whose father own the shops.

“Abdullahi, however, lamented that if the firefighters had come to the scene of the incident on time, the inferno would have been brought under control, noting that their coming was of no use to the people of the market”.
