The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMET) has issued a forecast predicting thunderstorms and heavy rainfall across the country from Monday through Wednesday.
NiMet’s weather outlook, which was made public in Abuja on Sunday, predicted isolated thunderstorms and moderate showers over the states of Kaduna, Gombe, Bauchi, Kebbi, Adamawa, and Taraba on Monday morning.

The northern area is predicted to have isolated thunderstorms with moderate rainfall in the afternoon and evening. In the states of Adamawa, Taraba, and Gombe, flash floods are probable.
Monday morning forecasts for the central area showed an overcast sky with brief sunny spells, along with moderate rainfall over Niger, Kogi, Kwara, the Federal Capital Territory, and Benue.
Later in the day, most of the central region is expected to have thunderstorms with moderate rainfall.
On Monday morning, NiMet forecasted gloomy skies across the southern area, with Ekiti, Ondo, Rivers, Akwa Ibom, and Cross River states expecting to see moderate rainfall.
Moderate rains are anticipated over most parts of the southern region later in the day.
The northern area will get cloudy skies with sporadic sunny spells on Tuesday. It is predicted that Borno, Kaduna, Gombe, Bauchi, Taraba, and Adamawa may get isolated thunderstorms with moderate rainfall.

The states of Kano, Jigawa, Yobe, Katsina, Zamfara, Kebbi, and Taraba are also expected to see thunderstorms with moderate rainfall later in the day according to NiMET.
Tuesday morning is predicted to bring cloudy skies with brief periods of sunlight to the central area, along with moderate rainfall in the states of Kogi, Niger, the Federal Capital Territory, Kwara, and Nasarawa.
Later in the day, thunderstorms with moderate rainfall are predicted over the FCT, Niger, Kogi, Kwara, and Benue.
Wednesday’s forecast calls for cloudy skies with intervals of sunshine throughout the northern area, with little likelihood of thunderstorms and light rain in Sokoto and Zamfara.
NiMet urged motorists to avoid driving during heavy rainfall. Farmers were also adviced to avoid applying fertiliser or pesticides immediately before rainfall to prevent nutrient leaching.
Additionally, NiMET also suggested that households avoid tall trees, unhook electrical appliances, and secure unsecured objects to lower their danger during storms.
Airline operators were encouraged to obtain airport-specific weather reports for effective operational planning.
